I absolutely love pictures.  My camera is never far from reach, and I’m a big believer in displaying family photos so that the love your family shares is visible to your children on a daily basis.  I think this helps them truly feel supported and part of something wonderful because they can actually see it all around them.  (Read more about this point of view in this post where I share a wall gallery I put together.)

With that, I’m always looking for photo inspiration.  As a blogger, flipping through websites in search of special pictures is one of my favorite ways to spend my time!  I could literally get lost on the computer for hours as I try to find amazing pictures to share with all of you!

Over the past year, I have shared hundreds of photos here at my blog, but the 10 shots below warranted the most attention.  Judging by the number of times each picture has been pinned on Pinterest, I have selected the 10 most popular photos of 2013.  They are shown in order of rank.

You can follow along at my Pinterest page to keep up with my pins.  I’d love to have you visit me there!  I also tweet most of my pins via Twitter.  Find my Twitter page here.  And of course there’s Facebook, too!  :)

10.  Hands – Young & Old

This picture of my daughter’s hand resting on her 90-year-old great-grandmother’s hand says so much about life and all of its beauty.  I tear up just looking at it.  There’s something about the way our hands tell our story.  When you think about people close to you who have passed, you may sometimes struggle to picture their faces, but I bet you can remember their hands…

9.  Stack It Up!

This pose is too cute.  In fact, it inspired our own “sister sandwich” photo in my youngest daughter’s birth announcement! (Although let’s be honest… ours wasn’t quite this picture perfect!)

8.  Back-to Back

This is one of my favorite family photos.  The pose is unique and adorable, the lighting couldn’t be more perfect, and Mom’s boots are fabulous, too!

7.  Baby Up High!

This happy photo is so fun.  Our little ones can be held up overhead with one arm for a very short period of time.  I love how this picture captures this quick-yet-wonderful stage in life!

6.  Busy Sisters – Set a Scene

This adorable photo is a perfect example of how props can really make a picture special!  The props also give the girls something to do, which is so helpful with young kids who don’t always want to cooperate.

5.  Don’t Be Afraid of Color!

This picture got a lot of attention for the clothing choices this family made.  Not only is the pose great in the doorway with Mom leaning in toward Dad, but the bold use of color shows us how our apparel can really set a photo apart!

4.  Use a Trike

Everybody absolutely loved this pose idea.  Such a creative way to catch these brothers having fun!

3.  Create Different Heights with a Fence

This picture stood out not only because of the great clothing this family chose against the white snow (love the splashes of red, right down to the mittens!) but also because of the creative use of the fence.  Awesome!

2.  Walk in a Line

This photo is a personal favorite of mine, and apparently others out there love it, too, because it’s been been pinned a lot on Pinterest!  This is such a fun pose idea, and it works well for young kids because they aren’t being asked to sit still and smile at the camera.  This family obviously spent some time on their clothing as well.  They are a perfect example of how to blend patterns, textures, accessories, and color.

AND THE MOST-PINNED PHOTO IN 2013 FROM MY BLOG…

1.  Don’t Mess With Her!

This photo is absolutely priceless… that’s all there is to it!  Everybody loves this shot, and it has gone crazy on Pinterest!  What a fun idea for any number of brothers to hold signs like these when a baby sister arrives… love it!  As someone with two older brothers (who was highly protected and eventually married one brother’s best friend!), I can totally relate to this family dynamic!  :)
